1. What is interactive cinema?

This is an innovative educational action which was implemented by a group of teachers, at the instigation of Dimitris Tsiros, teacher and director, as part of the activities of the non-profit educational organization Fotogramma . The collaboration on the project of actors as well as technicians and people from the world of cinema proved valuable.

The innovative educational activity of interactive cinema is part of the broader framework of recreational teaching, student participation and applications of technology and art in education. It is based on cutting-edge audiovisual material in 2D or 3D, educational materials and worksheets, participatory and interactive dialogues and a number of parallel actions.

Thanks to the applications offered by specially designed programs – software and multimedia – it allows students to interact using remote controls with the projected audiovisual material.

2. How is interactivity possible during the screening of films?

Interactivity is ensured through remote controls which are distributed to students. With these remote controls, students interact with the videos viewed, decide what they will see each time, choose what seems to them to be the right answer to the questions submitted to them by the actors or presenters.

3. What are the applications of technology that interactive cinema uses?

Specially designed software that allows students to vote, video player software, applications of 2D or 3D technology, special glasses that allow students to view films in three dimensions, specific remote controls that offer them the possibility of choosing the projected video and interact with it.

4. What subjects are covered by interactive cinema, which classes is it aimed at, and in what language?

Interactive cinema films deal with subjects related to ecology and the environment, the development of emotional intelligence, the awakening of social awareness and culture, violence and harassment at school, secure use of the internet, Greek heritage from antiquity to modern times:

Participation is free for students.

7. In which countries have interactive cinema programs been produced?

Interactive cinema programs have taken place in schools in Greece, Luxembourg, France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. This action began in 2009 and has already involved thousands of students, with remarkable educational results.

8. Have the programs been approved by the competent authority?

The programs have received approval from the Greek Ministry of Education and take place under the auspices of the Greek Ministry of Culture, which subsidizes them. In Luxembourg, the file is submitted to SCRIPT, the competent authority for their approval and financing.
